Troubleshooting

Symptoms: Error message when adding device, or device appears blank.

Solutions:

  1. Ensure you have Max for Live (included in Suite, or as an add-on)
  2. Check you’re running Ableton Live 10 or later
  3. Restart Ableton Live
  4. Re-download the device from the customer portal

Symptoms: “Activation failed” or “Invalid license” message.

Solutions:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Verify you have chosen the correct license file
  3. Ensure you haven’t exceeded the activation limit (3 machines)
  4. Try again in a few minutes (server may be temporarily unavailable)
  5. Contact support with your order number

Symptoms: After clicking Sync, no MIDI clip appears, or clip does not update.

Solutions:

  1. Check your Ableton Live version: Clip sync in Arrangement View only works on Ableton Live 11 or later. On earlier versions, clips always get synced to Session View.
  2. Check the Settings for default clip target (Arrangement or Settings)
  3. In the Arrangement View, clips are created at the loop or playhead marker by default, check it is in view. You can optionally adjust this setting in the plugin settings.

Symptoms: Triggering a chord block plays no audio.

Solutions:

  1. Check the track has an instrument loaded (Harmonybeam outputs MIDI, not audio)
  2. Verify the track isn’t muted or soloed out
  3. Check your audio output in Live’s preferences

Symptoms: Typed chord shows an error or doesn’t parse.

Solutions:

  1. Check spelling — see Chord Notation Reference
  2. Make sure accidentals are explicit (F# or F♯, not F sharp)

If none of these solutions work:

Include your Live version, operating system, and a description of what you were doing when the issue occurred.
